Introduction

Instagram is one of the most popular social networking service in the world, with over 1.4 billion active users world wide. However like any other technology, its has limitations and challenges. One of the main issues that Instagram users faces is, limited privacy for story and post updates. To address these issues, we have redesigned Instagram user experience with new features. In this case study, we will explore our design process, show case new features and explain how they improve the user experience on Instagram

Design Process

The design process for the Instagram redesign project began with user research. I conducted interviews with Instagram users to understand their pain points and the features they wanted. Based on this research, major issues were identified. To address these issues, I have created user personas to represent the target audience and their needs. I then brainstormed design solution and created sketches, wireframes and prototypes to test and refine ideas. Finally I arrived at the final design of the screens that I wanted to add. Throughout the design process I tried to keep the user needs and pain points in mind to create a solution that would improve the user experience on Instagram.

Previous Design

In the current design, users are limited to just three sharing options:

1. Your Story (all followers)

2. Close Friends (single fixed list)

3. Send as message

There is no option to create or manage custom audience lists, which restricts users from sharing stories with more specific groups. This limits privacy flexibility and forces users to manually hide stories if needed.

New Design

Create a new list to customize who can view your story
